You make an excellent point, Sue. The damaging sex education that is pushed on adolescents who are not ready is the sex "education" that comes from the entertainment and advertising media; especially when adolescents' parents, schools, and churches are silent because they think children are not ready to discuss healthy sexuality. The Our Whole Lives curriculum cited in this article does an outstanding job of instilling skills to analyze media for the toxic messages they often contain. Sexuality is a good gift when it is integrated emotionally, physically, spiritually and intellectually and is appropriate for age and maturity. Our Whole Lives teaches that it is healthiest for adolescents to abstain from sexual intercourse. This message is taught early to boys as well as girls and is reinforced often.

I encourage those who feel that comprehensive sex education is necessary, to read Dr. Grossman's book, "Unprotested". Her articles, "What our Daughters Must Know", "What Girls Want", and "Shocked" are very informative. Dr. Miriam Grossman was a UCLA campus psychiatric with an overflowing practice dealing with female patients who were having a difficult time with the 'Hook-Up" culture we are now in the midst of. She warns that 'pushing' sex education on adolecents who are not ready or responsible for the consequences is very damaging to our young folk, especially girls. Please be wary of organizations who insinuate that girls can be sexually active without remorse or consequences.
