The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of ECOSOC, the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and particularly emphasizes Gender Equality and the global Advancement of Women. This year will be the 52nd session of the Commission, considering “Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women” as its primary theme. Held from February 25 to March 7, 2008, the Commission is good time of year for women to come to the UN and participate in gender equality advocacy.

To better understand the issue of Financing for Gender Equality, the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women held an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the topic, hosted by the Government of Norway in Oslo, from September 4 to 7, 2007. Experts at the EGM produced a number of papers and reports providing clear and excellent information for any Ecumenical Woman doing advocacy at CSW 2008.
