Lutheran Office for World Community

The Lutheran Office for World Community exists because Lutherans are concerned about world problems. It advocates for peace, fundamental human rights, justice, respect for international law and better standards of living for all persons. The office is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).. The office also represents the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), which represents more than 57 million Lutherans around the world. The LWF is a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and the LWF supports the Platform for Action adopted in Beijing in 1995, and has resolved to “face the challenges that the promotion of justice and awareness of rights for women brings (“We Are Witnesses,” LWF Documentation No. 39, March 1996.).”
