The United Methodist Office for the United Nations

The United Methodist Office for the UN (UMOUN) is a joint ministry of the General Board of Church and Society and the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries established by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. The UMOUN has been a long time supporter of women’s rights and participated in the 1975 – 1995 UN Decades for Women, attending all the conferences including the UN World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as the Fourth UN World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. Along with other ecumenical organizations, the office promotes the ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and follows the proceedings of the Committee which monitors the implementation of the Convention. In 1992 and again in 1996 the General Conference of the United Methodist Church affirmed a resolution on The Status of Women.
